Okay, I'm back from the garage, and have found the offending components.

Both disturbing, yet convenient, the split-pin is missing from the clutch pedal, however the clevis pin (I think that's what you guys called it earlier) is still in place. Glad it stayed that way during the few times I drove it.

I already thought of threading wire through it. It seems like a really good idea. It's good to see the great minds at work on this forum!

I haven't done anything more with it tonight, because it was pretty dark by the time I got to that, but I'll be up there over the weekend. I did manage to get the four subframe bolts that I was asking about undone, so there's another bit of fun for the weekend.

Matt & WantOne... It'll be cool to meet you guys sometime. I'll keep in touch. :) I wanna tidy up my garage a bit before I show it to anyone though!

Thanks again, all!

the position of the clevis pins and their inaccessability is right up there with BMCs finest work. I just pulled out the M/Cs myself, but we all know that is the easy part

You guys think a Mini pedal box is hard...
I just removed the M/Cs from a `77 Moke, you can't see an effing thing in there... no holes in the sides of the pedal box, and you can't crawl in low like a Mini.
So.. I undid all the bolts and nuts, and the return spring, pulled the pedal pivot shaft/bolt out, let the pedals hang off the MCs and pulled the pedal box out a bit. You can then get at the clevises from above. 8)
Could work on a Mini too if necessary, like if you get a seized up clevis pin...

A mini man who worked at the BMC dealer in Lithgow told me they used to just undo the bolts holding down the brake (or clutch) master cylinder, lift it up as far as they could and then hacksaw through the arm going to the pedal box.

But in true dealership fashion I guess they never repaired, just replaced. Although it does seem like double handling.
