How would you package a block and loose bits( crank, rods, flywheel, cam etc) to send interstate for a bore and assemble by the man?

I'd put all loose bits in a box, then strap or shrink wrap it all onto a pallet...

I sent an assembled short motor in one (sturdy) carton to GR from Warwick in QLD. Lined the insides with Ply then filled all gaps with foam.

I sent the flywheel, balancer etc in a seperate box.

Total weight was around 65kg.

Sent it by AAE (offpeak) as that is my work's courier co.

Should have seen the look on the delivery guy's face when he went to lift it. I told him it was very heavy, he tried to lift it anyways!

Plastic crate with lid, the type with the clip on lid.
When I was doing courier work we used to deliver a lot of parts shipped this way.

Hmmm -- beats trying to build one out of plywood and pine slats.

Had planned to use garbage bags and squirt some of the pressure pack foam into them and let them form 'shaped' packing material.

That sounds a great idea wombat , keep it all nice and snug in the box/crate without adding too mudh extra weight or mess .
