Hi all

Removal threads are all over the place but I basically cut the last shell from this engine with an angle grinder. So I have no expeirence.

I have a engine crane and my motor is complete, the front end and hubs etc are complete in the car.

I have a rod change box that dosent have the selector assy attached to it.

I am aware off the issue with the engine mounts.

Basically do I just stick it in and guide the joints into the pots?

So I am basically asking for tips

any help will be appreciated

thanks everyone

Basically just stick it in , will be easier if you make the lifter plat that's described in the how to's so the engine tilts back a bit and also pop the top ball joints and steering tie rod ends so the driveshafts sit out of the way until you're ready to connect them once the motors bolted in . Not worth trying to line them up while lowering the motor , plus there's a chance of getting your hand caught/mashed if it drops while you're doing it .

I find it's easier to drop the engine down, and try not to put both shafts in at once. Get one on, and then manoever the engine around to get the other one on as well. If you are doing it yourself, a plank of timber can be handy to lever the engine around while handling the drive shaft at the same time with the other hand.

Don't forget to put the speedo cable on as you lower it down.

Mod corner

Yep dont worry about the shafts untill later when dropping a motor in.
If your fitting new engine mounts you are going to have enought trouble getting them to bolt up firstly

This is the only thing I have to add to the guys above

Hang on - its all good advice except that you need to have the inner CVs out of the road before you sit the engine down.

That means getting the car up on jack stands (safely) and dropping the top ball joints so you can draw the whole hub assembly back. Then you can just drop the motor in, locate and do up the engine mounts etc.

Then slide the joints into the pots. Becareful with the balls - liberally coat them in grease so they stay put other wise your going to hear the pitter patter of little balls all over the floor at inconvenient moments.

Did I see somewhere that you can wrap them in glad-wrap?

Mostly, once the have the balls a little bit into the grooves you can pull the glad wrap out. You dont really want it in there although it gets ppulverised very quickly.

Molybond, the grey CV greese.

If you undoo the top ball joints you can pull the hubs out far enough that the drive shafts pull out and give you plenty of room to move the engine into place.

I just leave the gladwrap in there.
If you only use grease at least one of the balls will fall out and roll somewhere so you can't find it. :x

YAAAAAARRRRRKKKKK..............I disconnect the drive shfts from the Inner CVs, leaving the CV boots and GREASE (YAARRK) sealed away.

I don't mind getting dirty and even grease and oil, but CV grease is made from some kinda evil alian droppings.

I soak 'em in diesel. CV grease is evil.
