I'd be interested to see the size of the vinegar bracket against a non rusted one.
Just to see if there is much in the way of a thickness change.
:?

The vinegar part has now reached the point where it is starting to erode too much metal. The surface is deteriorating and is looking quite etched. I have given it a coating of oil and have now discontinued the experiment on this part.

The molasses is working well and starting to clean up the part. The steel bracket is starting to look silver, and a couple of other clean spots are breaking though.

This is Goulburn. The last time the grass was green was 2001.

Stop your nagging woman, I don't know why I ever married you. :P

I am starting to have doubts about the Molasses. It is just not doing the job. I think I need to get more heat onto it to improve things  ...

More heat. What dilution ration did you use? Dont use 100% or it won't work very well. Ratio should be about 1:5 or greater. Some blokes pump air via a compressor into the solution every couple of days to speed up the process. I'm restoring a very rusty WW2 truck at the moment and using molasses exclusively. Great results but its very slow as my tub is not heated and fairly diluted. (I normally leave heavy rusted parts in for a couple of months ) I though about digging a hole in the ground, lining it with plastic, filling it up with molasses, and driving the truck into it.

On second thoughs, I need to dig a hole in the ground, line it with plastic, drive the truck into it, get out of the truck, then fill it up with molasses.
