I'll take one for $15.00!!

I wondered what people would think of that valuation..... though I don't have one

I've got one of the 'standardised' MK1 S cases, but it's the same as an 1100S, so maybe $13

here you lot.... no-one bid on this one, and for $30 it comes with bits inside it (gotta be worth $20). And before anyone says 'yeah, but the diff housing is broken', since that one is a different colour to the rest of the box, and the bolts are missing, I'd say this fella bought the box just to get the diff housing for his own.... it's not a big deal to swap a diff housing over.

Simon,
Changing the Diff housing is a bigger deal than you think.
The case and the diff housing are a matched pair as they are line bored while bolted together.
Just like main bearing caps and blocks.
Big problems result when you squeeze those diff bearings out of shape!

It's been done lots of times, you just need to bolt it up and check the 2 bores for roundness and alignment.
It's permissible to remove the 2 dowels if needed to get vertical alignment right.
It's also permissible to run without the top and bottom gaskets if necessary to make it round, just use Loctite 515 or similar metal-to-metal sealant instead.
So saith Sydney's #1 Mini engine builder (not me)...

If necessary, the diff housing can be decked, bolted on, and then remachined by anyone with a mill, boring head, and some nouse.

I'm installing a Magic Wand diff housing onto a remote box. The alignment is so close a blind man would be happy to see it. 8)

Just think about it, the alignment has to be about right. If it was just a slap dash bit of machining the diff gears wouldn't mesh properly.
