I have decided to leave the part in the molasses till I see some sort of change. There is no point in drying it off to take a photo when it looks just the same.

Now do you remember the broken bolt that was stuck in the vinegar part?

I tried a few times to undo the nut that was frozen on it without success, so I just left it soaking in the vinegar for another week. Today I pulled it out and stuck a spanner on the nut, stuck the broken bolt in the vice and it just undid straight away.
