My Matic shelll has the early scuttle. With wipers that park on the drivers side.

Edit: I notice it dosnt have the chrome moulding that goes around the window/door frame, so perhaps it is an 850?

Well yours is 2 years earlier than mine then. I'm not saying they don't exist, just that they are much rarer, there were far more 850s made than early scuttle matics.

OK , that's not the really early front valance so it's between late 1963 (?)and 1968 . Any numbers on the firewall or radiator shroud ?

open a door and look at where the door strikers are on the body. If it has an indentation for the door its deluxe, if it is smooth its 850.

thought id give this a quick update, bonnet is off, however,

there are no numbers on the radiator shroud, and on the firewall on the drivers side, it has the number 2264 on it, no plate in the engine bay at all either.

what the hell is this car? :?

also, on the bonnet, there are 2 holes a fair distance apart, hopefully the pic i took came up alright so you guys can see what im on about.

<edit> heres the pic

Those holes would be for the Morris Badge.

Well , if it is an 850 that body number put's it as an early 1961 model which should have the full valance (not the cutout one like in the photo) . Any chance of some photo's of the floor around the shifter hole/s and starter button mound ? Door jambs as Grey64 said as well would help . I'm leaning away from an 850 at this stage from that low body number .

sorry, been a bit lethargic getting photos, the cars out at my mums place and i dont go out there too often. ill dig around the photos ive already taken and see if i can find any worth looking at.

also, wheres the starter button mound? this being my first roundy im still learning. theres a hole in the floor just a little bit away from the tunnel on the drivers side, would that be it?

when im next out there, i should get photos of the gear shifter (both holes?), the floor starter button (i never knew minis had this). Would you like me to get under the car and take photos from underneath?

sorry for all the questions, i can be a right royal pain at times, but thanks again for your patience and help,

cheers,
robbie

It looks like it has the floor starter button hole (next to the hacked out shifter hole), Not that it would take much to drill one (but why would you?) My thought is it might be an 850.

Did matics have the deluxe floor pressing with the hydro pipe tunnels and the covers under the floor? Might be another thing to help work out if its a 850 or a matic?

Andrew

The hydro floor pressing and covers came in in 1967, before MiniMatic was released here so they should all have it. Both my Matics did.

So I suppose if it has the hydro floor pressing it's post 67, but if it doesn't, it's somewhere between 63ish (when the early front panel ended) and 67.

Maybe a Morris Mini Minor (YMA2S3) poverty pack job, hence low body number?

Andrew

How many coats of paint does it have? Is the back the same colour under the black as the front is? Is the front of the car anything at all to go by given that it could have had a front ender and had the front replaced?
