while we are on the subject, Mo has started to spit black (I am guessing) oil from out the muffler. When up against a wall, when you put the foot down and rev him, then move away from the wall, there is this round black splatter from the exhaust.

He doesnt smoke on start up, and leaks about a 20c piece worth of oil per week which seems to come from the gearbox join. Oil is good and pretty clear still having been changed about 4 months ago.

Is this signs of something bad..??

When the motor cools down, you get water condensation in the muffler. When you start it up it comes out the tailpipe, with carbon specks etc. Nothing to worry about.

:D Champions. After parking in front of a Bini and setting the world right, I took Mo to a mechanic. He said that the carbie is running way rich which would explain the fuel consumption jumping from like 6L / 100km to 8L / 100km..!!!

So... new year he is getting a tune... or possibly the webber put on.

Then with the weber you'll be getting 20L/100km :)

OK one more question before bed. I just read in another post place a response to someone getting information about fitting a K&N ram flow air filter which I now have. THey said:

> Also have you considered what needle you may need in the carb once you
> have fitted the K&N? If you fit a K&N, you'll be wanting a richer needle.

Should I have upgraded the needle in my carb once the air filter was changed over? Mo seems to be running rich now, but this person suggested a richer needle. Does this sound right?

normally when using a sports air filter you are increasing air flow to the engine,
doing this the requires more fuel(richer needle)but in most cases it's a trial and error basis. put the air filter on and tune it with the standard needle, you will soon know if you need to upgrade

Sorry Dr... just wanted to check, I have just ran Mo for a bit this afternoon and the junk out the back is increasing. He hasnt been driven for 2 weeks and was in a locked up garage so I would have thought there to be minimal water condensation (dry conditions in the garage).

Still no need to worry..??? :?

Depends whether water level in rad is dropping.... If so it's probably head gasket.

Check how old your muffler is and whether its full of gunge, Often if oil is being spat out the breather hole its because the muffler is blocking up. I experienced this problem a few years back. My muffler was full of oil and grunge because of the poor condition of the engine. Its a problem because the oil thats being spat out will coat the radiator and reduce its working surface making everything run way to hot. Take the muffler off and see if its light or feels like several house bricks. Worth a check its cheaper than a new motor.
