Back in April I bought a Tamiya Mini Cooper shell on ebay from a Hong Kong trader - no big deal -$US17 I asked for plain basic postage of $8. He rights to me and suggests that at least I should register it. so I paid the extra $4 to get it sent registered mail. June I get an email saying he had two bags of mail returned from Australian Customs and everything was damaged and he thinks my package was one of then - to give him all my details again and he would send it again and suggested paying extra $6.60 to send it airmail - which I did. He sends me the tracking number which shows it left HongKong for Australia 24th June. I wait a couple of weeks and nothing arrives and the Australian Post tracking doesn't show anything> I sent him another email saying it hasn't got here and he sends me a new traking number that shows it left HK for Australia 7th July - still nothing!!! I'm begining to think this guy is jerking my chain - should I report non-delivery to ebay/paypal or wait a bit in case it's coming by sea?

Chinese traders are a bit of a worry. We bought two computer memory chips from an ebay trader allegedly from melbourne. They refused to combine postage so we had to pay $20 in postage and handling.

Then we waited for three weeks for the goods to arrive. Numerous unanswered emails. Finally the chips arrived ex-Honkers, both in the same envelope with the lowest value stamp on it. We had to pay excess postage on the envelopes - another $20 so in all a bargain turned out to be a fairly expensive pair of memory chips and it was supposed to be from a local trader.

Feedback (which we didn't read at first) repeatedly showed the same thing.

Read the vendors feedback and if there is a history then report to Ebay. Ebay is a slow process anyway when things go wrong.

You might have already missed the deadline for a paypal dispute, and you will deffinitely miss it if you wait any longer - report him and start a dispute if you still can - paypal insures you for that.

Looked at his feedback - all the latest stuff is praising his speedy delivery Interesting is he's only been a member since May 07 and has 8700 positive and 210 negative and 154 neutral in 12 mths - been a busy boy. - hasn't had any feedback in the last month

Despite the experience I quoted we have had a fairly good experience with chinses traders over all and have bought a few things such as electronic incubator thermostats, computer parts, watches and the like. Mostly which arrive faster than local postage.

We do recognise that foreign currency is more important than the value of the goods to the vendors and China generally is on an economic catch up.

However, April is a long time back and this person is more concerned about the next sale than the last one. Its time for a report.

I've bought a fair few RC cars from Hong Kong, the biggest was one of those 1/14 scale trucks. I've never had an issue, and I get the stuff from there faster than I would in this country.

i bought a starwars lego model from hong-kong (one of those 3000 peice ones). It cost me like $400. i never got it. filed a complaint with paypal and got a full refund.

but have purchasd other things from hong kong and not had a problem.
