I have orderd a new set of straight cut gear from the UK (Three months ago and they are still on back order) I have been told that first gear is very tall so it may be a little hard to get off the line.
If any one runs straight cuts on the road what diff are you running to compensate for the tall first gear?

I ran a factory sc/cr 3 synchro remote box in my Cooper S for years on the road, along with a 649, Browriggs and 45 Weber. I always used the 3.44:1 diff with no problems, and that was coping daily with Melbourne traffic. Gives you a great take off range before you need to change into second.

Mine is similar to that but I grabbed a dyno plot to show torque versus speed and the overlap in each gear
It's not very accurate because each engine is different but its actually really interesting to mess around with...

We ran a 3.4 diff in Targa one year and a 3.7 the next with a four syncro SC gearbox. The 3.7 was my choice, the 3.4 is too tall and makes hill starts a killer expecially on really hot engines.

I know the English tend to run really low diffs...I don't think this suits our roads as well - mind you I am not an expert!

I just had a close look at my 3.44 diff pinion gear shaged. I think 3.7 would best suit what i want to use the car for thanks for your input.
