Does anygody know if it is possible to grind the taper on the end of the crankshaft that mates with the flywheel to clean up damage
Ive read that fretting is common and this can destroy the shaft . I have an EN40B shaft that is not cracked and is perfect except for the taper. There isnt much to come off to clean up but it logically will moove the flywheel back closer to the block.
How far can you go back before the flywheel fouls on domething?
Is it possible to grind offending bits off the back of the flywheel to provide clearance?

In other words how much can you take off the taper?
Thanks in anticipation - a new EN40 shaft is $3300!!!!!

Yes you can cylindrical grind a little bit off the taper, it's common to have to bore the flywheel recess a little deeper if you do, so it still misses the primary gear.
You will probably need a little taken off the end of the crank too.

If the damage is only slight you may get away with just lapping the flywheel and taper together. Its worth a try.
