Hi all
Can any one recommend a paint finish that I can apply to my reconditioned master cylinder.
Since it's rebuild, and not yet installed into the car, it's rusted already.
I'm looking for a paint that might be resistant to brake fluid (a big ask)
I would appreciate any assistance.
In hind site, I should have got it plated prior to reconditioning.

Another quick question.
Why is one master cylinder, brake I think, is made out of alloy and the other cast iron?

there were 4 types of master cylinder, tin can, cast iron with plastic reservoir, alloy with plastic reservoir and twin circuit with plastic reservoir... as they changed from one type to the other, they were mixed up. I'd guess that your car is a '72-ish clubman, and would be right on the changeover from cast iron to alloy, so got one of each

I painted mine (both cast iron) with clear lacquer, 3 years on and they still just look like cast iron that's been wiped with an oily rag

I honestly couldnt say what mine are made from. I had them coated about 7-8 yrs ago. They have had fluid in them for 5.5 yrs. They still look as good as they did when they were first done. If you spill brake fluid anyway flood the area with water.

Mine is a 73 clubman S, alloy brake and cast iron clutch.
What sort of lacquer did you use?

just a spray can from a hardware store... I could go and look at the can and tell you the brand (yes, I've still got it) but it wasn't anything out of the ordinary, and it's cold outside

Some Master Cylinders have the manufacturers name on the side, for example PBR, B.A.I, Or on the filler cap see if they match ?

the alloys are PBR, the cast iron are Lockheed.... but the caps/reserviors/internals are interchangeable

What are the PBRs worth these day? I bought a new lockheed one on the weekend while I overhaul the breaks... it sounded easier than reco'ing the one thats on it. Are these latest lockheed ones any good?

that'd be the plastic one that looks like a tin one - squat and round, rather than tall with the big reservoir cap on top

as for quality, haven't heard complaints, but haven't used one either
