was coming back from glenbrook tonight, got onto the freeway everything was going fine, once i got down the mountain though, anything more than 1/4 throttle, and it would start like it had barely any fuel to run on, so i was only going like 70 on the freeway, just couldnt go any quicker. it was the same in all gears, however, with the clutch in or if it was in neutral, it would rev out freely, once i found a back street i pulled over, nothing that i could see was wrong, but i tried starting her again (was off for about 5 mins) it only barely kicked over after about 4 previous attempts.

by the way i have a 42DCOE weber, so does this mean that i have a throttle/fuel problem, or possibly a clutch issue??

any ideas and help would be greatly appreciated.

cheers,
robbie.

will check the fuel filter tomorrow, replaced it less than 6 months ago however.

what would be the best bet for a new fuel filter?

and, as far as i know, theres only like 1 or 2 other ausminier's in penrith, but i havent seen them online for a long time now, so that ideas out the window, anyway could i check the coil without getting another one?

Do you have a timing light? Just watch the light while you give it a rev.

To check the filter just remove the filter and see if the problem goes away. If it does not go away it is not the filter! (best part is it does not cost anything!)

nope, no timing light :?

gonna be hard to remove the filter, theres a short hose from the weber to the fuel filter which sits roughly near the wiper motor, then a hose from the filter to the pump. how do you guys suggest i get around this little problem?

I'd say electrical.
I had the same problem once due to a stuffed coil.

After talking with minidrifter on MSN I reckon he got a bad load of fuel, it did this straight after a fill.

Can you get another piece of hose to bypass the filter - you may have to have a short length of pipe to use as a joiner with two hose clamps. I would probably have a coil here you could borrow.

A fuel filter is not an expensive item so I would just replace it anyway and see if it fixes the problem. If it is down to bad fuel, maybe it isn't a good idea to bypass the filter even temporarily? Especially with a Weber which aren't as forgiving as an SU.

interesting little development,

today, she started normally, then played up like it was last time, but once i changed into second it went away and i could use the whole throttle again, then from then on in for the hour drive the problem came and went whenever it felt like it, so the theory of bad petrol i think is out the window, for example, cruising in 4th go to plant it, she struggles like nothing else, back it off, go for it again, and itd rev like nothing was ever wrong. this is really starting to annoy the s**t out of me, however its not the fuel filter, replaced it, made no difference.
