Okay as most of you know I've got an 998 and an 850 (seen member's gallery) As I had not seen the cars before I picked them up it was sort of a case of okay between two cars/shells/parts etc.. I'd end up with one fully restored Mini..

Dilemma: Apparently both Mini bodies are really good with only minor repairable body or surface rust. But have only financially commited to one Mini. (I didn't expect both of them to be in as good a condition) Which one do I choose? Okay easier option is to use the shell cause it's already stripped etc..but...??

Which would you choose and why?

Are you in for mods and performance, or are you in for originality and heritage?

In reality both can be done as performance but the 850 (in my opinion) has more heritage... I could be wrong...

They are both roundies yea?

You can only increase your CC by a certain amount from what the model had from the factory. For that reason, I would choose the later model, with larger motor from factory. Then you can slot a 1275 + in it, with no hassles.

has the 850 got sliding windows if it has and you dont partiularly like them do the other one, and sell the slidey window doors. they are worth good money for those who want an original 850 resto job

ps 1275 can fit on an 850 box with a bit of grinding, but why would be a good question
although if you go a motor and box swap on the 850you will need to move the gearstick hole in the floor
as jam said 998 easier

In my opinion i would go for the 850 for originality, but im not the one thats going to be driving it. you could do what some guy did in the january Mini world magazine and supercharge the 850, 80bhp+ it looks really nice yet not being overintrusive on the engine bay.

If u dont want to go that route. i would say the 998 cos there is a big difference in power and if u enjoy driving the car thats the better engine to have.

toss a coin, if both are good then it is the only sensible solution.

Cheers

I agree with Aaron, toss the coin then put the other in storage for a rainy day!

I wish that was an option but it isn't  Due to Hubby's job and all his gear.. his hobbies and a house extension that is hopefully going up soon we just don't have the room...Not unless I leave the other one sitting out in the weather, I can't have that!

PM sent

the 998 can go to a 1100 with the right crank so if you are going to be rebuilding an engine that will give you a few more CCs :D
