Ok so i knew about opening and closing, large, small circumferences of the shape of the pads, But no matter what i pull poke, squeeze and shove in anyway, i really cant get the thing back on. I have had them off before also, so i dont know why it wont work. And it is annoying, because i want to drive the vehicle.

So i just spent an hour+ looking at what i can do. But nothing will seem to work.
It just wont fit, the drum that is.. Whatever combo of twists i give, it wont go on.

Changed topic title to get more attention , i hope.
I need help. or maybe i just really dont know what i am looking for.

Most of the things I have to suggest are unlikely but here goes:

When you try to put the drum on do the holes in the drum line up with the studs? If they don't the brake shoes might be off centre you can push them from side to side so push them in the appropraite direction.

the brake shoes are sitting in the slots / grooves in the wheel cylinder correctly right?

Is any of the handbrake cables levers etc jammed ?

I can't think of anything else :? :?

So i took photers. dunno if anyone can analyse them and make anything of them.
But i meaured the circumference of the other brake shows around and area, ( on the other wheel ), and it was 21.5 inches. On this one, the one that wont go on, the same area is 22 inches, so something has happened?

Hmmm, the shoes look to be off-centre in the first pic. This will certainly make it hard to slide the drum over them whilst lining up the wheel studs. The shoes look like they have plenty of material left on them ...one little low spot there but thats nuffin to worry about.

Wheel cylinders don't look like they are weeping fluid (that I can see!)

You need to gently push up each shoe so that they make a perfect circle within the other "circles" on the brake backing (looking at your pictures, if you took the shoes away you would still see two metal "circles" around the outside.

You haven't really said whether adjusting the square bolt behind the brakes made the shoes go in or out?

BTW get a wire brush on those wheel studs and clean up the threads then the tiniest smear of axle/chassis grease will ensure smooth nuts on/nut off (Grasshopper!!). Do not put any on the taper of the nut.

Once you get the Drum back on, and the two little countersunk screws that hold it on....go and pump the brakes firmly a couple of times...this helps "centre the shoes" and tells you how good your adjustment is ...you should be able to turn the wheel easily but hear a slight "scraping" noise (the shoe dragging on the drum).

Once thats done...carefully drive it to a brake place and get em to check it over!!

have you been able to get the Drum back on yet.
I totaly agree clean those wheel studs up with a wire brush while you are down thier.

As I said earlier your shoes are out of alighnment..but atleast they seam to be sitting in all the correct places...check the right hand shoe is sitting in the brake cylinder.
Otherwise you can close the shoes in to get the drum on. See in your pictures at the top where the shoe's meet... Behind the plate is a square adjuster (you should use a proper tool for this as it may be very tight
Cant rember if its clockwise or anty but relax it of a little. You find with the adjuster thier is a high points and when you re adjust it back to need to ensure you are on one of thge flats..as mention with a little scraping of the shoes. I good idea is to count how many flates you go past as you are relaxing the shoes off to get the drum back on.
Once its all back together again get it down to a Brake specialist and get them to check it over and ask them to put some copper grease on the thread of he adjust..Both sides

Ok well this is really shitting me now. it wont go on. And i am too vauge with my descriptions, and knowledge of things, to tell what might really be going on.

But moving the adjuster knob, at max it only makes the circumference of the pads, cylinder, and that circle, less than 1/16 of an inch bigger. So i dont think that that is very much.

I have a few uncles, of mates dads that might be able, and willing to help, if nothing else comes up. So ill wait, and fiddle still.

Cheers for the help anyway

Ok so much more looking and angryness. comparing both sides.
The stuffed sides shoes, hardly go into the cylider, compared to the other side. And looking at it, is it the handbrake rod that might be not letting it go in further? it looks like it :( :?

Camel, I notice that the adjuster is out a long way, so if you stick a screw driver in the slot (in the circle in the photo) of the adjuster and screw all the way in your drum should go on. On the back of the adjuster is a square shaft so that you can adjust the brakes with a spanner once you get the drum back on.

THANKYOU TO UNCLE NAV
Well i hadn't talked to NAV for 142 days. And i was just about to go to bed yesterday when he popped up and told me all about whats going on. He clearly explained what to do, as i was unclear on a few things, and i had a few 'whys?' to ask. And in his complete decency, and the wonderful man he is he took much of his own late night to tell me what to do. So thankyou Mr. Uncle NAV.

So i would the nut all the way out, and then put it on, then had a fiddle with things, and all is back to normal.
I miss my mini brakes so much now i drive the magna everyday. I got so used to the brakes over a year of uninterupted mini driving, even though the pedal touches the floor, and i need a new master cylinder, as its ( whatever it is ) losing pressure about the place, with a combo of foot pedal, handbrake and gearstick, all at once, i had myself a very good set of stoppers. And i like it.
A few times i have really stomped on the brakes in the magna like in the mini, but magna pedal not move far, and stop = rubbish not used to, not like. But ill get used to the magna eventually, and then go and wrap the mini cause i forgot how that car works.

but all is good. And NAV you're a champion. and good to see another person who doesn't care about mistakes in their MSN messages.
