I've never greased my nipples.

I was gonna buy a grease gun for $7 at a fete a few weeks ago. Might go and buy one this weekend as I wanted to spend a bit of time on the car this weekend.

What sort of grease is used, is there different sorts for different nipples??

I use EP2 grease in all the suspension nipples  I think it cost about $12 or so for a tube (450g) of grease last time I purchased one. I have one sitting in reserve for when this one runs out.

Just use a general lubrication grease in all nipples - back in the 60's I used to use graphite grease - nowdays I use a Molybdenum grease.

On the side of the car. They are covered up by little rubber bungs. You might have to wipe away the old grease that is now covering that area. You should see it just past the front side of the rear wheel arch.

The car is supposed to be greased every 3000miles or 5000km.

The vastly superior Morris 1100 only has 5 grease nipples.

The only grease points are the ball joints and the gearchange.
The upper suspension arms and the trailing arms have roller bearings and no grease nipples.

1. when you fit new points you smear a little HMP grease on the cam.
2. You are supposed to put a drop or 2 of engine oil in the top of the shaft (under the rotor) every pancake day. :P

Lachie, if you don't know the last time they were done, do them now! Same goes for oil and oil filter I reckon.

You only grease the cam lobes on the dizzy shaft where the plastic contact thing contacts the lobes of the cam. Only needs A LITTLE BIT on there

You can also put a couple drops of engine oil into the top of the spindle axis. DO NOT REMOVE THE SCREW. But that's about it for the dizzy.

<edit> the good doc was way too fast for me

I bought myself one of the STM grease guns we have in the warehouse, and a $6 450g tube of Molygrease EP2.

I plan to give the front end a good going over while I have it up on stands this arvo.
