The brake predal will not full return.
I have:
1. repalced the master cylinder with a brand new one
2. The brake pedal moved freely and is mot jamming

Has any one got any ideas.

The brakes works fine but the pedal only returns about 60%.
Pumping the brakes does not seem to change the problems or improve the brakes

can you pull the pedal up easily with your hand?

there is a spring that goes between the clutch pedal and the brake pedal (on a manual at least) and they do sometimes break. - Just check that out...

Could it be the seals in the caliper if running disks? Spiro is doing the same thing...

This shouldn't stop the pedal returning on it's own.

I would check spring as others have said and also check the pivot, make sure it's not corroded (the bolt thing that the pedal pivots on) and binding.

Thanks for your suggestions, the pedal return spring appear sto be in good condition and returns the pedal when the master cylinder is not contected.

Also if you push the pedal down softly and do not full apply the brakes the pedal returns nicely.

However if you push the pedal down hard it returns about 50 to 70 percent of the way but you have the pul it the rest of the way either with foot or your hand another inch or so.

I am pretty sure it is not the return spring or the master cylinder but I open to other ideas.

I check the spring again.

The car is a mini matic hence it only has one pedal ( the brake pedal).

The return spring is broken but only on the clutch pedal side. The part of the spring related to the brake pedal seems to be unbroken and returning the pedal except when you push on the brake hard.

Does anyone know if the automatic minis have a different type of spring to the manuals.

I converted my Matic to manual years ago with a Clubby clutch pedal and kept the Matic spring, I think they are the same.

The more I look at it the more it looks like the brake pedal bushes & pins are jamed.

It is going to fun trying to get the pin out.

Any suggestions other than "Good Luck!!"

Don't try and do it in the car...pull the whole pedal box out. Last time i tried i spent ages trying to get it out in car, then i pulled the whole box out stuck it in a vice and bashed the bastard out

I bought a new pivot bolt and i also needed to sand it down as the zinc plating made it a few thou too big and it wouldn't go in!

Has any taken out the brake pedal/ steering wheel cradle/bracket.

I can see four nuts and bolts but there appear to be two othe flat bolt heads that seem to disappear into the fire wall.

The brake pedal pivot pin has ceased on the need to be removed but I am not sure if I can get it out with removing the whole assembly.

I had this happen to my mini once, the pedals seized up on the shaft. I think it was only one nut you had to undo, on the drivers side of the shaft. You will also need take the clevis? pins out of the master cylinder if you want to take the pedals out, as well as the pedal spring.

It might be hard to slide the shaft out so try and avoid knocking the shaft through as you might damage the thread

And take carefull note of how the spring goes, everything needs to be in place before you put the shaft back in and it really sucks when have to pull it apart again because you put the spring in wrong....

Did you put a new clevis pin in the pedal? if you did check that it is the same length it may be catching

Pedal box is also attached to the parcel tray with 2 bolts.
I agree, take the whole thing out, fix on the bench.
The bushes seize on the shaft due to lack of lube, just clean up, grease and reassemble.
