I know of a black Moke with 13" wide rims which are made from 3mm flat aluminium sheet which the owner had a 'metal spinner' spin up to the shape of the wheel,
3 pieces, the outer and inner rims then a 16mm thick spacer which bolts between them and onto the hub, the owner says they are lighter than a standard 5" alloy wheel.
He drives it on the road a lot and no problems with bending etc.

My 10x6 Mamba's are 2.75kg (rim only). I know you said they are hard to find but I think they are worth finding! Took me ages to find mine.

Otherwise these KAD ones are the lightest I have seen, you also get centrelock wheels :) One version is as light as 2.12kg! They are also "the lightest on the market". Not cheap at $1000 each though.....

At 2.75kg, I wouldn't be stuffed machining rims!

Now to fine someone who will sell me some Mambas

Anyone know any other rim weights?

Valtain claims that their magnesium wheels weight only 1.9kg each.
Yeah - 1.9kg!

Their alloy wheels are pretty light as well... That'll be my favourite wheel 8)

Good ol` Colin Chapman (Lotus) use to say that you should design it perfectly... & then remove half the materials,,, or something along those lines :-)

not much weight in these ,,, maybe 1.2 kgs,,, but hey,,, they might be too strong for the average road car so beware what you buy :-)

I just weighted a bare stock 10 X 5 Tasman Mk2 (according to Jan's website , photo stolen below) and it weighted 3.5 kg (never thought they were that much heavier than a contesta/contessa) .

Damn straight! I reckon I would have 1/2kg worth of weight just in solid brass in my centre caps!

BTW Ian, that's is my spare wheel 8)

Original 10" Dunlop wheels weigh 3.375 kg without centre caps.
They are fairly thick so I guess it's possible to machine them.
I wouldn't, safety comes first.

This is from the Pommy guy - don't know if I agree as I have not seen a Revo up close - especially about the 1mm off the inside of the wheel:

the rims on the revos are very very thick, normal alloys have a much thinner rim. ive machined them down to just under ths thickness of a normal alloy. ive also taken 1 mm off the inside of the wheel(the part you can not see with tyres on).

ive also taken 1 mm off the spokes. they still look the same shape. ive just skimmed over the tops to get as much metal off as possible.

to be honest most of the weight is on the rims of the wheel.
