Well guys and gals, wakefield has been run and won... We had a great turn out in the end (thought there would only be 3 minis) 8 minis turned up, many types on show, 3 hybrids, cooper s, panel van, matic, clubbie and deluxes.

Track was empty, there was only a couple of other street cars there so the minis had plenty of room to show what there capable of. Fastest i saw at the end of the 400 metre straight was off the dial :D only goes to 180,,, but didnt have the balls to late brake at that speed so lost lots of time in the braking.

Everyone escape pretty much trouble free, kev (dr mini) had a scare on the first session with a smokey engine breather, turned out to be a loose head

Luckiest person of the day goes to simon in hes panel van, was absolutely ripping up the track before he's left front rotor cracked right thru and hes wheel looks like it was held on by the hub nut by 2-3 threads,,, he was lucy because he was the only guy to bring a trailor :D

Anyway there are some pics up in the events section, hope to see all you guys at the next one, had a blast out there today.

oz, the first couple of sessions no one timed us, but im sure i would have been close to a 1.18-1.17,, on the session where chris timed me i had josh in the car with me and made a mistake on the back straight, plus had an astra slow me coming onto the straight, think i did a 1.20 or there abouts.

On one of my better laps i kept one of those 300kw porsche 4wd's behind me and on the straight pulled away :D

Tyres are really letting me down, just crappy SIME $75 tyres

Brad? Chris...the attitude of the Mini under hard acceleration on the straight can only be described as "zooooom". The torque reaction on each change (although not excessive) says you are right that the suspension needs some fettling.....great machine!!!!

i have standard cones all round, fronts are shagged (down to the bump stops).

Front shocks are spax 1-14 adjustables, had them set on 7 for the first couple of sessions and bumped them upto 11 for the last session, much firmer ride, better cornering, less under steer.

rear shocks are koni adjustables set on medium setting. rear sway bar too.

getting hi-los for the front soon. Also getting rear camber from 2 deg positive to 1-2 deg negative soon.

The car was very neutral around the track, mainly because it has the power to pull it out of corners, unlike joshs mini when he went into the same corner with the same speed hes rear would let go and he wouldnt be able to use the fronts to get it back in.

I tried to get it to let go but it just 4 wheel drifted, front and rear together,, it may also have something to do with the crappy tyres im using, not much traction so it dosnt matter how the car is setup it will always slide if pushed hard.

Thats bad.... 4 wheel drift= uncontrolable > crash > lotsa swearing and sadness

I need to upgrade my suspension as well, but fitting the turbo up and getting it going takes priority......

no it was controlable 4 wheel drift, i could hold it where ever i wanted :) if i wanted the car to go further out on the corner id just let it go, if i needed to get i closer to the apex just stomp on the throttle,, it was great fun :D
