when is the next social meeting jan? i might come down and say g'day, i'm quite interested in seeing his car too. i might not be in my mini tho since my xmas performance pack is finally getting done!

my car is a 1275 and had drums all around too, ( its got discs now so don't stress!)

a few things different under the bonnet are on the 1275 at least are the oil filter position, it takes a z93 screw on type but directly on to the block, completely differentt to all the aussie cars, it also has a factory coolant overflow bottle. to satisfy local content legalities they had to cast their own blocks, so they signifigantly redesigned them. i am told that the sth african blocks and cranks are up there with the best.

i actually don't have too much info on the south african mini's i would really like to know more. i would love if you could pass on any info you might find out.

cheers steve

Well Steve I have emailed a few people so let's see what we get back. Next social meet is Wednesday of next week. You will come in handy when it comes to the engine bay so hopefully you will be able to make it.

If you find out anything let me know and I'll do the same.

Turns out it is a round nose mini. Is supposed to be a 1970, I think very early Mk III. Looks just like mutant used to before the transformation.
Althought now I'm wondering because I just saw the pic you have of your badge off the side of the car and yours says Leyland South Africa. He wreckons his says British Leyland. He didn't bring it but brought photos. He is supposed to be coming back to the social night next month. It's in good condition looking at the pics. My husband managed to get hold of a timeline of every model of mini ever to come out of South Africa. Interesting reading. I'll have to have another read now and try and work out what he has.

It is an automatic however. He got that right.
