 Post subject: help! Mini wont start

okay, got a battery with plenty of charge, new spark plugs, points, rotor, dizzy cap, condensor.

no spark is coming from the plugs or is seen between the points
coil is getting hot
starter motor turns over quickly
points filed

carb seems okay and float bowl full of fuel

please help :shock:

if the coil is working and there is no spark id say dissy cap. Have you got a spare? check the little black wire in there,, mine broke once and wouldnt start.

is your low tension lead between coil -ive and condenser connected ?

has happened to me :)

Yep check the cap it could be cracked...Check all your eaths again also

brand new cap :(

might it be the engine to body earth?

the car was tow started yesterday so i know it should run

If you've put a new condenser in check that the tag is not under the insulating washer - don't ask how I now the car won't start if you do this :oops:

regardless of the dizzy, there is no high voltage spark from the coil HT lead.
what am i looking at here? starter switch?

coil could either be wired wrong or faulty, change it and try again,

yeah i have tried with 2 different coils so i dont think its the coil

Have you checked out the lead from the coil to the dizzy?
Mine was RS and I wondered why my mini was running badly :roll:

There is no spark at any of the plugs right? :?:

There are wires going up through the ignition that if unplugged will stop it starting / sparking, look for some white wires joined by round plugs (where the tacho would connect in)

yeah the HT lead from the coil to dizzy is a new one

theres something funny going on with the ol electrics

With the ignition on - open the points by lifting the arm and see if you get a spark at the contacts and tell us what happens

we tested both the coils by connecting a battery to the terminals and getting a spark from the HT lead, so the coils and the leads are okay

Is there 12volts at the distributor with ignition on? ie before the condenser
