Hi, I am just after any information about the 'sports 850' model that was briefly available. I am after any information on the differences between it and the standard 850. All I know at the moment is that it had twin 1 1/4 inch SU's

I am currently restoring a 64 850 van and I would like to turn it into perhaps a sports 850 van.

Any help would be much appreciated.
Cheers

Hi,
There is a couple in NSW that has a Sports 850. They are members of the NSW Mini Club. You may be able to contact the club and give them your details to pass on to this person. Maybe then they could contact you.

Good luck.
Just had a thought, he usually comes down for MINISHOW so you could perhaps meet up there.

I had a friend who drove one back in the 60s, I used to tune it. The carbs were two stock 850 ones (LH float bowls) and the throttles were joined by a rod with W-clamps.
I think they had a different muffler- was it centre mount? Sheesh, it's a long tima ago..
Badges front and rear were different, the rocker cover was chromed I think, with a badge on it.
I can't remember what exhaust manifold it had.

I had the same carbs and intake manifold on my humble 850 back then. 8)

Kind of a waste of time from what ive heard.... was stil a bog std 850.....with not the most effeceint twinc carb set up, and basicly bolt on go fast bits.... to which being an 850.... made not alot of difference at all..... thats what ive been told!

Yes it was all worth only a coupla HP- I think the head was a stock 850, I'm sure the cam was, too. Hardly worth the trouble. You would probably get more by fitting an HS4 carb and porting & shaving the head. But why do an 850... they got no balls!

Hi,
Don't really know that much about it. All I know is that it is an original Sports 850 because he wins all the concours prizes. It has been to Minis At The Mill in S.A. several times. His name is Gordie Welsh.

Sorry but that's about all I can tell you.

The MCC NSW member who owns the original 850 sports is George Welsh, he's a master at playing soccer 3 parts pissed & not spilling a drop of beer.
