The funny thing about the V8 Rover / P76 motor is that is was originally a Buick (Buick, Oldsmobile, Pontiac) motor.

Not from what I've read and heard. The Rover V8 is based on the Buick motor but the P76 V8 was made from scratch here in Australia  , or so I've been told numerous times.

The P76 motor is the Rover V8 with a 1" taller deck height (or something like that) Lots of bits interchange. They are almost the same engine.
Leyland Australia didn't have the money to develop a complete new engine so they just used an enlarged version of the Rover. They also didn't have the ability to design a motor from scratch.
The P76 blocks were cast in England and machined here. (Leyland Australia didn't have any casting facility)
The cranks came from England.
Lots of internals are the same as the Rover.

CAC in Melbourne started casting blocks for the P76 but the P76 got canned before they were fitted to cars but they were used in the Leyland Terrier truck.

The project is progressing slowly but surely.

Still waiting to get it outside for some full shots. Mainly to see how it sits and to see how the roof rack looks. Wasn't sure about the rack when he said he was going to put it on but it seems ok.

I went back and had a look at the photo's in this the other day wondering how it was going , I was deeply in love with it and the quality of the finish until I saw the checkerplate . I know it's the builder's choice but after seeing the absolute top quality of the build checkerplate just looks too cheap for it . Maybe polished timber would suit it better , possibly even timber painted matte black ?

Attention to deatil is just brillain specialy in the Engine bay and Interior. That Paint work is Fantastic  and hate to think the amount of rubbing back. I also would not have gone the checker plate but thats me. Get a Battery in the engine bay and some seats in the front and tell us what it feels like

Very 8) Ride and I can see the Summer months driving around with the Tail Gate window open as I (did) love to do in my EH Holden Premi Station Wagon

have to agree that thing is mint until you added the checkerplate...its just cheap and tacky and suited for ricemobiles not on something that nice
