Go belt drive

Why? Why is a belt better?
Personally I don't think so, would be very interested to know your reasoning!
Dave
I have my 1360 running a belt (it was in my 1310S motor when bought 15 years ago), but my 1412 and 1293 both have standard duplex.
The belt gives me no spark scatter like chains do, doesn't stretch like chains do either so the (electronic) dizzy timing stays spot on for years, ditto the valve timing.
Graham Russell likes them, for race motors.
Downsides..
1. They need changing periodically BEFORE they strip teeth.
I used to run Pirelli/Dayco belts and changed them at 40,000 miles. Still looked perfect on the tooth flanks, but belts don't last forever.
These Italian made belts became NLA a few years ago and everybody then sold us Chinese ones. I found one slack on the pulleys, so wasn't game to fit it.
I now run `Gates' 41052X19MM Kevlar belts from MiniMania, they are supposed to be good for 50,000 miles. But they cost US$100 each....

These belts seem to be unobtainium from Gates in Australia.
2. You have to be very careful not to mark or bruise the pulleys, as this will destroy the belt teeth quick smart.
3. The kit is now bloody expensive. OK for a racer but IMO too dear for road use. Next best thing is a duplex with an A+ tensioner.
