what have people used for the door hinge gasket instead of buying the origninal Ones. ive been thinkings about cutting out some old bike tube inners so it will be a sorta water proof seal depending on how tight it is sealed.

Get a set from the likes of mini-spares etc. A full set will cost you a very small amount.

There are 2 types of gasket, the original fibre? ones, and rubber.
I used rubber this time as I found the fibre ones hold moisture and rot the door and body. :x

Originaly the fibre type gaskets were used under the hinge before the car was painted in the factory. The paint would then seal up the gaps and wouldnt let the water in. I have painted A panels/doors before i have fitted hinges, then painted the edges of the fibre type gaskets, installed the hinges & doors onto the body and then applied more coats of paint over the lot. it works very well and looks orignal.

I used the original type.

I did prep and paint the backs of the hinges and where they contact the panels to protect the metal. Then I painted the rest of the car.
