I wonder if it is vapourising the petrol?

Does it have a fuel filter?

yeah, my first thought was vapour lock. my old engine got vapour lock on a hot day going up Mt Panorama, then up Mt Victoria on the way home once.

I moved the metal fuel pipe a bit further away from the exhaust and it was fine after that.

cheers
michael

It appears the fuel tank wasnt venting - when I opened the tank when hot it gasped - I dropped the tank and cleared all the crap that had fallen in around it and all seems well.

So when it needed more fuel the pump couldnt deliver when asked the question

Sang to the redline (the guilty one - you know - you change when you feel guilty for the all the pain you are inflicting) all day today :D

How the hell wasn't your fuel tank venting? Isn't it sealed using a piece from an old cork tile? :)

Well, that solves that problem.

So did the tank come with a vent or did they have a vented cap?
Either way one of them is blocked. :D

The last time I saw BIAM's "fitted" fuel cap - let's just say he wouldn't want the passenger smoking in the moke.
