Hmmmm, are you replacing the two humongous bearings as well??

Have you been using mis-matched Crown Wheel and Pinion (shouldn''t make that much difference).

Maybe your diff housing could do with a line bore??? Hell, thats a hard one.....Doc??

Your syncros are probably stuffed along with your selectors. when you jam your gears in too quick the diff locks because your in two gears at once for a breif moment and shears off teeth. Sounds plausible to me, but others may have a differing opinion.

Cheers

Aaron

Only time I've seen pinion damage (Mini Mad's car) it looked like the damage started from somebody using a cold chisel on the lockwasher, long long time ago. Pinion lost a tooth then sometime later, another. Bad toothache.. we needed another pinion. Crown wheel was still OK, surprisingly- they are pretty tuff.

I've never ripped teeth of a crown wheel or pinion in over 20 years of abusing mini gearboxes and this includes racing, savage starts with more than 120hp! Because it has happened to you twice it must be something you are doing either driving wise or workmanship with your gearboxes. Under what conditions does it happen? You could of course be the receipant of bad luck with defect parts, but the odds are pretty low I'm afraid. Tell us more. Steve

Hehe that twas me :D I still have the gear sitting at my desk on display ;)

I don't think reving that crap out of the little bugger would be a problem, before mine decided to eat some teeth for a quiet weekend breaky, It hadn't seen over 5.5k and rarely went past 4.5k...

The docs car does see 8k'rpm so i don't see the prob as gearboxes are no stronger?

I too double clutch every change...overkill probably, probably eat's pinion wheels too :P haha..

I have damaged a pinion, a piece of metal got jammed between the pinion and the crownwheel. The piece of metal was the bracket off the centre oil pick-up. It came loose because the crank hit it. The crank hit it because......

the first time it happened i think it was the oil througher it exploded and i think sum peices may have got jammed it the crownwheel and pinion and blasted a few teeth off. i found half a split pin stuck to the sump plug and 2 gear teeth i believe to be from the crownwheel and pinion. reason being is noise is present in all gear when slowing down. and the sound is the same as last time. thanks for the help. i beleive that i have also broken my ankle skateboarding so the engine pull is on hold but the more feedback the better. the crownwheel and pinion was replace buy a good friend of mine who is a great mechanic. i think it just been bad luck.
