Hi all
After talking with someone who works all the time on minis, he advised me that 2pac paint on minis is a major concern.
2pac bubbles & cracks in a few places, like gutter & seam covers & 'c' pillar where the lip is extended from the side rear window.
This doesnt happen with acrylic paint.
The paint shop are saying to paint in 2pac & this wont happen.
I need to let the painters know in the next day or so whether I want the mini painted in acrylic or 2pac.
What have others painted their mini in?
Any problem with 2pac?

Paint will only fail if there is poor adhesion. this can been cause by lack of preparation in those hard to reach places. It would not matter if it was acrylic lacquer or 2K if the surface is not preped correctly it wont stick. Personally I would go with 2K as it is more resilient to the elements and can take knocks better than acrylic. Just remember new car manufacturers are using 2K for good reason.

If it bubbles then it is a problem under the paint not the paint itself. If a professional paint place is doing the job then I would use 2 pac.

In fact if you did ask for acrylic then I would expect they would charge you more because of the additional time to sand the top coat, compound and polish to a good shine. I have painted both in 2 pac and acrylic and my recent acrylic job (on my own car) I have spent so far nearly 20 hours blocking the clear, compounding and polishing.

2pak is a really tough paint. It doesn't give. It can crack if you have movement in your panels or if they flex excessively.

Other than that, I'm with the others. I'd go with 2 pak for sure.

I finally finished my acrylic, it looks better than 2pak.
Because 2 pak goes on shiney people don't care about the orange peel. If you want NO orange peel, either paint is a lot of work.

The Torana has been cut and polished to look like acrylic
Easy if you prefer the look of that finish.

I prefer the look of Acrylic but I would use 2pac primer. Its water proof and doesnt shrink. But thats me.

If you are paying someone to paint your car then 2pac. If you paint the car at home then acrylic.

Simple.

you can use 2k at home you can get different hardeners that suit non bake applications. It is illegal tho without the proper xtraction and breathing apparatus so be careful. You also have to pay a bit more attention to your spray gear.

Listen to the painter, if he says 2 pac that is what you should use as that is what he is used to, minis were never painted in A type acrylic annyway and that is all you get these days

Slight thread hijack, can someone tell me what (if any) is the difference between "two pack / 2 pack / 2pak / 2pac" and "2K"?
