Hi, been thinkin about putting "Ike" back together with an 84 mm stroke, think I have a virgin big journal crank in my wrecked 1300 auto. If the stroke is increased by 3mm does that mean 3mm has to come off the top of the pistons, if so can hypertecs cope with that? Haven't found any S rods yet so that's a stumbling block, saw some bent ones on Ebay, are they straightenable (about 4mm bent)? Been reading the mod threads , very interesting, you guys are great. No, as not all pistons have the same deck height. There are various theories as to the best piston height for "squish volume".

I haven't used hypertech's so couldn't say (running Omegas quite happily in my 1430cc). If you haven't yet bought your pistons, try Mad Matt as he has a good supply.

you only need to take 1/2 the stroke increase off the pistons.
Mine has a 84.33mm stroke (up by 3.0mm), we took 1.5mm off em. They are 73.0mm Hypatecs.
Yes S rods can be straightened. They are usually bent when you do check em.. mine all were a bit. But 4mm is a lot.
Graham Russell (in Sydney) can do them. Any reco shop over there would have the gear.

<edit> as for squish, I aim for .010" piston to deck clearance on fast roady motors.

Yes of course only half the stroke increase needs to be removed from the piston crown, good to hear Hypertecs can cope with that, thank you Kevin. S rods seem incredibly expensive from places like minimania, (like 2k plus NZ) the bent ones on ebay may be worth having a crack at. Thanks for the squish info you guys, cheers.

Put an ad in wanted forum for some S rods, I know there are a few sets about in Oz...
You can also use MG Midget 1275 rods, dimensionally they are the same- so haunt some MG forums.
