Hey all a friend and i where thinking about doing this to my mini, and i just stumbled across this one, how much work do you think would be in doing this... (my friend is a fitter/boiler maker so no probs with welding)
i think it looks awsome.

The hardest bit in doing something like that would be the roof. It would be much easier to do the back end of the cab flat (just cut the roof at that spot).

You'll need to talk to an engineer about what needs to be done structurally to obtain a certificate for the modification.

I dont think you could go to all that trouble and then just put a flat cab on the back, i think it has to have the curved window...
But it would be a lot easier.

Yes their was one similar to that on eBay not too long ago but I don't know if it sold or what :? . My panel beater did one decades ago when he lived in New sheep shagging Zealand. I think they look good but I'm not to sure on how practical they would be as a ute.

Well, even a genuine mini ute or mini van is pretty much useless as a ute or van. You can't fork a pallet of beer into them, you can't carry a 5' long piece of anything. Bu they're very cool.

I like the design but the boot lid needs to extend to the top so there isn't a bar across the top, i.e. make it into a proper tailgate. And yup, it needs the curved roof and rear window. The rollbar looks good, prefer it in polished alloy though.

There was one like that at MATM last year, i liked the idea but not the result. Like Simon said, it looked a bit weird.
I agree that a tray conversion would look o.k. like how people do with beetles.
