Check out this link....

http://www.dpi.wa.gov.au/licensing/fees/exam.html

Tells you the fees for inspection and moving, moving permit from what I understand is good for one day. To and from inspection only. about $15 for movement about $53 for inspection.

Badly designed site but useful.

Cheers

Above link for WA rego purposes

I just realised an important thing I'll need for licensing, that I don't have.

A 12" spare :(

Will it have to be the same wheel or will any 12" rim and legal tyre do? My tyres are 165's, would they allow 145's on the spare? I dont see why not, as "Emergency Wheels" are totally different to the rest

Anyone know the technicalities here?

Don't take the spare!
If it is not there they can't knock it!

You don't NEED a 12" spare. A 10" spare will do, as if you have a flat on the front you can put a rear tyre on teh front and trhe spare on the rear. This is what you do on a modern FWD car with a yellow space saver spare anyway. Hey, just paint the 10 rim yellow for an authernic space saver look.

Technically, you do not have to carr a spare, and the spare does not have to have road legal tread in VIC anyway. But as soon as you fit a spare with low tread the car is unroadworthy supposedly. A car presented for a roadworthy with a space saver fitted will fail anyway.

I have 12 inch wheels and a 10 inch spare. If i get a flat on the front it'll be a pain in the posterior as 10inch wheels won't fit over my brakes :x I will have to take the 12inch off the back, put the spare on there then put the good 12inch on the front. Luckily i have another set of the same wheels here just waiting to be redrilled when i get the $$$$$

one of the blokes i work with is right into old cars, mainly mini's and he said just to rock up to the mechanica and ask for the form they they use when checking your car then go home and go over it your self as if you were doin his job, that way if he tries to fail you on somthing you can bring it to their attention that the item is worthy
