someone told me that if you have a dint in the roof you cant just fill it because the roof flex's and cracks the bog. is this true, what does this determine for my mini roof??? would i have to replace it?

I wouldn't think it's possible to replace the roof/major structural component like that, maybe weld and repair patches or sections..but the car would warp and flex if you tried to replace it i would think...

Well, you can replace more or less any panel, although the roof is particularly hard as it is continuously welded not just spot welded. So in all but a 997 Cooper S restoration, it would not be economical.

But having said that, the roof doesn't flex enough to fling bog off. A major crease would be pretty hard to fix though. A small ding should be pretty easy to hide, I would have thought.

If done propley,it shouldnt worrie it,if you put bog in a door then slam it it dosnt fall out onto the ground(depends wod dodgy you are),if its small id go with bog/fiberglass,if its big,its time to get the hoodlining out and fix it propper

That's what i was trying to get at, uneconomical, I'm sure a dent you be beated out enough so that only a slither of bog needs to be used...

Nah, you can repair roofs. I read about a mini in one of the magazines which had been repaired many many times - it turns out the car was used by a polytech teaching panel beaters. Once it was fixed, the tutor would bash the roof again and get the next bunch of students to fix it. The guy who eventually bought the car cleaned it up and it looked fine.

Modern 'bogs" are way superior to the old stuff anyway.

Yeah those 997 Cooper 'S's are really really really rare.

And what is the rarest Cooper? The 970 S?

I have seen more Mini's with dented roofs than straight. Someone said (Big Kev maybe?) that the pilars flex, thus making indentations inthe roof....

hey fellas, this is the dint im most worried about and why i made this topic post, exuse the ugly much shot of myself, but as you can see the dint was made by someone slammin their hand on the roof using the underside of their hand whrist/palm part, makin a real nice pearler as you might notice. Its by far the worst on the whole car its about 20-30mm deep max, and about 60mm or so wide.



then theres these other scratches which are sorta of half dints half scratches on the side of the car, but these can be filled over usin bog filler, right? i made the image larger so you can see exactly what im talkin about. It doesnt look like much here but if u look closer you can notice the scratchdinters...sorta like large creases along side of the mini.



so solution to the problem in repairin this myself? should i beat out the roof dint as much as so it doesnt protrude the roof shape and then fill it with bog and sand over nice and smooth?

I read that too, if i remember rightly it was a red roundnose with a glossy black roof (possible some gold spectrum wheels), and your right, couldn't see a dent...but he didn't replace the roof, that would be a HUGE task...

It would look as though you need to pull the headlining at the rear and pop the dent out and then skim and sand the area. Shouldn't be hard to do. Or get one of those paintless dent removal guys to have a look at it.

Mini roofs (rooves?) undent pretty easy. Mini-Ha-Ha's was all pushed in (from kids jumping on it) when I rescued it from its storage garden, my mate at work beat it all out, he hardly put any filler in it at all.
