Poeee,
I believe the ADR for speedos says they have to be accurate to within 10%.
Doesn't seem to mean anything though when you can get done for 4k over in a 70 zone, that's around 6% over.
Maybe you should all vote Steve Bracks out....

It's about bloody time that they started to train people to drive in this country. If it wasn't so damn easy to get a licence, people wouldn't do stupid crap like having an accident on the M4 (for the interstate people, a straight piece of freeway which for some unknown reason some jerk crashes on almost daily).

The courses you have to do to get a bike licence in NSW are awesome. Just simple, basic roadcraft which isn't taught to 95% of people who drive cars. Some people are lucky and learn good habits of their parents/friends etc but not from a driving school. They just teach you to pass the test - and you can do the test on a goddamn automatic!!

Give me a week and I'll teach my 8 year old nephew to pass the driving test on an auto - what does it prove? You might as well just sell the licence for $20 and be done with it.

I read somewhere they have a good scheme in Russia. (even if this isn't what actually happens it's a great idea). The Idea is you raise the age of getting a licence by a few years, but you can get it earlier if you complete a basic driving and vehicle maintenance course. crap, you can get a licence in this country without ever having driven over 60km/h or driven on a freeway let alone changed a tyre or checked the oil.

I'd rather see Poeee's fine money going to training drivers, and pulling over **** (as Mick so elequently put it) for stupid things like changing lanes without looking/indicating than whatever bullshit it's being spent on now.

there's a road in werribee (wynham vale if you are picky) called Black Forest Road. NEVER SPEED DOWN THIS ROAD!!!!!!! there is often a copper on the side of the road, the worst bit is its a 50 zone, and there are PADDOCKS WITH COWS IN THEM ON ONE SIDE!!! grrrrrrrr

My wife, a mate and his wife all got done on this road. Now I crawl through there and wave to the public servant sitting in the camera car!

I believe a few people are challenging the police on the new tolerances......and winning. Write them a letter. See how you go. More people need to fight this........wish I could remember who the fella was that was helping people become aware of it.

I read an article years ago in a car mag - don't have it any more unfortunately :(

Basically there is an Australian Standard for the use of speed cameras and radar traps. The article told you which standards Australia numbers (you know, sub-section and paragraph etc) to quote to get out of things. I don't know whether or not this standard still exists, or any of the numbers, but It may be worth investigating.

I remember there were a lot of interesting parts that would get a lot of people off. Things like there isn't even allowed to be another car in the photo from a speed camera at all. All you had to do supposedly was quote this Australian Standard and you wouldn't have to go to court.

Like I said, worth investigating.

of course... the big 70 on the sign is the speed limit as we all know. it is the fastest speed we are allowed to drive....

if you want to get out of a speeding ticket... drive 5ks under the posted speed.... you know... exactly the way that I don't

Two things

SOmeone once came up with the idea of everybody who cops a speeding fine for doing less than 10% (that's 10% not 10kmh) over the speed limit should simply fill out the back of teh ticket to have the matter heard in court and choke up the court system until these revenue raisers wake up to themselves.

THe other thing is the story in our local paper from the 11 year old girls who was pulled up by the Police in her own suburn=ban street forriding a 100W (yes the ones with a top speed of walking pass) and harrased and threatened with a $75.00 fine if she was caught again. Meanwhile we have one of the worst street violence and drug problems in the country.

Too right oz. The men in blue aren't focusing enough in the "bad" areas of crime.
