Hi, trying to install my 123 in my car. I have the wires pointing up in the right direction towards 1 o'clock and have a green light with TDC on number 1 cylinder. I purchased the 123 with a right angle cap with the leads coming out in the vertical direction. It is the correct 123 for a mini a series, not A+. The cap has a groove and can only go on one way. When I put the cap on it is pointing to the ground and touching the oil cooler. Is this the wrong cap? The distributor I bought it from thinks it is the correct cap and said maybe the leads should point to the ground. This is illogical and impossible as you cant get them past the oil cooler even if they were long enough. If I turn the whole unit around then the wiring is touching the starter motor at the bottom and the wires are meant to be at the top according to the installation diagram. Could my drive be in the wrong way around? Would this mean the body of the unit stays pointing up and the cap would turn 180 degrees? I don't think this is the case as the distributor rotor points towards 2 o'clock at TDC not 8 o'clock. Cap number is 1235 522 332. Waiting on reply from 123 in the Netherlands but seeing if anyone on here has the same type of cap. (thanks SGC and minisport for advice already)

distributor 180 degress out maybe?

Thats what I thought but the + and - wires that come out of the body are supposed to be at the top and thats where they are. Cheers.

Nope, his dizzy is installed in the correct orientation -- the power and trigger wires enter the distributor body at about 1-o'clock position, right where they're supposed to be.

I reckon it's the wrong cap, it's keyed to fit in one way only and that has the high tension leads pointing to the ground. Can't possibly be right.

Thanks SGC, still waiting on a reply from the USA and the Netherlands. I may take up the offer of the importer and get the one with the standard type cap and get this thing up and running and give my dad back his mini! I thought this cap may make it neater but in reality the original style cap with right angle leads would be neater anyway.

I would just spin the dizzy 180 °. Who cares if the 2 wires are at the top.. they are in a grommet?

Turning the dizzy through 180* will work (assuming the drive is too, natch) but the power and trigger cable boss then fouls the starter motor.

Besides, it's supposed to go in the right way up, he's just been dudded with the wrong cap IMHO.

My greatest fear in life is that when I die my wife will sell my Mini and tools for the price I told her I paid for them!

The notch could be removed to make the cap fit, but then it wouldnt have one to hold it in the correct location.

The obvious here is that it should have been correct in the first place. Send the cap back and get them to supply the correct one.

Thanks all, been in touch with the supplier who is a good bloke, just hasn't had a lot to do with minis, and he said to bring it over tonight and he will swap the whole dizzy for the standard type (the body has a different notch in it to the other one so they are not the same cap or body) and he will then sort out the issue of the cap with the manufacturers. All happy. I will let you know how the installation of the new one goes when I get home from work tomorrow arvo and put it in. I might follow up on the other cap and post a reply here about that too for future searches on 123 dizzies of ausminiers in case someone else has the same problem. Just hope it wasn't soemthing I did wrong! Cheers.
