Bought a new RC40 system with the mounting kit

The holes in the square centre block are no where near the threaded inserts in the sub frame - at least the diameter of a hole out - anyone else find this? The rear bracket for the cotton reels would line up but wrong place

exhaust mounts are always a pain in the arse - the design of the standard bits are just plain dumb - the mounts are held in shear instead of compression, so they're designed to fail

I made a 'normal' one - wire brushed the rubber off a broken front one and welded on a rod, and welded a rod to the exhaust pipe

there's a cotton reel at the back as well, when it fails I'll do something smarter with it too

no worries... makes it really really easy to hang the exhaust as well - you just pop it on, line up the extractors at the front and then do the cotton reel at the back - no shoving backwards and forwards, because it's nice and rubbery



bit more detail on this - since the metal for the original rubber is quite thin and will bend easily, I actually welded a ~3mm plate to the back (between the 'ears') and drilled through it, the rod goes through the hole and is welded from the back

the local exhaust wholesaler had a pallet load of those rubbers that they'd bought in for a customer, but had been stiffed and left with. I bought a box of 6 of them for $5, most suitable rubber I could find, and he wouldn't let me have just 1!

I had the cotton reels on mine and after a while they just riped off, not enough movement in them to deal with the ride of a mini IMO. I have since fitted 2 rubber brackets like simon has. It's so much better and combined with a flexible exhaust joint near the extractors the system can be hit, dragged over and caught on a hole lot of things and the mounts just absorb it all .
