Finally got the geabox off tonight. Could have kept going and got the pistons out but when you are maried to Mrs Oz, it's sometimes early bedtime

Take a look at the pix, in te second one you can see some interesting bore damge. STrangely enough #1 and #4 that gave the lowest compression readings are clean #2 & #3 seem to have these marks (well holes).

Hmmm..yep a bore to be concerned about....but

Looks like you will need another block. It's already a 1380. That looks like porosity in the casting, not a seizure or it would run up & down the bore.

Not worth sleeving blocks, IMO. Easier to find another. Any 1275 will do, doesn't need to be an S one. James still has one left, it's 73.0mm (1360cc).

plenty people sleeving 1275s back Doc....know what ya mean though....but sooner or later they won't be so plentiful

if your after a new block, contact Baracade (dean). I dont think he is going ahead with fixing his box' problems and is going straight away with the conversion... Therefore, he might part with his working 1275 or the right money

im curious about the sleeving issue.. i am sure some minis came with sleeved bores.. and also thought that as the metal technoledgy has improved (more than my spelling) that the sleeves would in fact be better.... Also a while back Zizzle (i think) opened a topic about running in proceedure.... i think that as the metal technology has changed so has its run in proceedure.. ie old style block old run in process new metal block, or bore, new proceedure. i cant think of a reason why a new sleeve wouldn't be a good idea, or more cost effective way of getting back to a fresh engine...... but im a knob, so i dont really know what im saying LOL i just wanted to know why...

Yes they can be sleeved back to stock bore, and yes you get more power. The sleeve material is finer grain (higher nickel content) than what's in the block. But it costs big$ to do it.
I just question whether it's worth it for a road car- if you do it, it won't be 1380 any more, sleeves would be too thin.
Easier to just grab another 1275 block while you can.

yes a lot of 1100S etc blocks were sleeved at the factory due to porous castings.

GINGERKING is a brand of wheat grass juicers (look up wheat grass on google) It's one of Mrs Oz line of imported stuff. Ther are time when my garage looks like Arthur Daleys (minder) lock up.

I have no trouble giving time to Mrs Oz - that's why I downed tools.

QUESTIONS.
Doc are you saying those holes have probably been there for a while?

Wouldnt the cheapest and most effective option for me be to buy a 1275 block and bore it to 1380 so I can re use my pistons?

If those holes have been there for a while why cant I just replace the rings ad rebuild the motor

Yep, there is a block there, currenly 73mm as DOc says..... needs a clean and bore / hone... perfect for a 1380 methinks.. already offset-bored as far as i can tell. . . . .
