Thanks Stuart I'll be in touch. Few "Other" problems to sort out first.

OK Guys what's the go?

Before pulling engine down #1 and #4 pistong were down on compression and a blow down test on #4 revealed presure getting into crank case. But now that I pulled the pistons out all the rings are present and accounted for. no breaks ANY IDEAS?

Loose head gasket was my story at Wakefield Pk, same symptoms. Blew fumes into the pushrod holes..
And after tightening it then driving home 130? miles with a busted-ass piston, it still idled OK and the plugs all looked the same, good.
I still think your C/R is now too high after you ripped 2mm? off the head.. need to check vol of chambers before you bung it back together.

2mm off the head???!!! I presume it already had some off it already, sure sounds drastic. What sort of head gasket? You could also get someone to put a bore guage in it and check if they are still round and also measure the pistons. Give it to Geoff Lord to measure, he being in Kingsford Street Fairey Meadow. He knows Minis. I can't vouch for his work as I have never had anything done there but I have spoken to him and he seems to know his stuff. It might even be a good idea to cc the head and see what that is.

This particular head had been done by waggott, or somebody for a race motor. The head was counterbored 74mm dia x 2mm deep, to let the pistons come up out of the block.
Now it is on a street 1380 with normal pistons, the C/R was way too low.
I suggested Oz deck it to get rid of the counterbore job, then get it CC'd and chambers relieved to give a C/R of around 10.0- 10.5:1.
Apparently it was decked 2mm, but not checked further.

prolly the wrong time to ask and all.....but what series were you planning running the car in this year Chris? NSW supersprint champs? or were you planning racing the improved production champs?

I also have to rebuild an engine to do the supersprint series, but i won't make the first round at eastern creek. planning to be there to support my brother though....
