it's a rusty!!!!! Behind it when i took it all of underneath.

The front is fine,, still nice & blingy but underneath it all is all rusty looking.

should i get it re chromed or should i buy a new one?

any one done it before?

whats the best way to clean of the rust before i give it to them to chrome?

They're usually like that as the rear side is not chromed like the front. Chrome used to be expensive once upon a time...so they saved a few bucks per bumper by coating the front only.

You could spray the rear surface if you're bothered by it, a piece of steel wool will remove most of the corrosion before you give it a prime and coat....

I would give it a clean with a wire brush and hit it with rust converter and paint it with Galmet or something similar.

Galmet is a zinc rich (around 80% or more) coating, another brand is Coldgal.
It is best brushed on. When it dries it leaves a dull grey finish.
You can get it in a spray can also.

It is great stuff. I intend to do most of my Moke tub with it, after I cut the rust out.

Galmet or Coldgal look "right" behind a chrome bumper.
They protect against rust and look good.

where do i get it super cheap rep co etc etc

This stuff is nearly as good as proper galvanising.
When I bought my boat S/H about 11 years ago there were a couple of cracks in the galvanised tilt trailer frame.
I ground them out, MIG welded them up and painted the areas with Coldgal. No rust is apparent yet, and it's often got wet with salt water.

slight hijack similar topic- the chrome strips that hold the sliding windows are fine on the visible area but areas of rust underneath and where the actual chanel sits - The Gal paint OK here ? - basically out of sight.

Taking it further under the chanel on other doors there is a bit of cancer - small area but runs along the seam between the skin and the top of the frame - I'm thinking get rid of the real loose stuff - treat the rust then cold gal it then cover with the window chanel. Is that all that is necessary or do you think a proper repair is needed?

If rusted through or nearly so I would weld it.
But coldgal under that channel is a great idea to stop condensation rust. I did the same under both my rear side window seams after I welded the RH one up.
