Hi all
Getting the wiring harness, & decided to put in an immobiliser.
Going to cut ignition & fuel, & put a red LED near the speedo (just above switch plate).
Has anyone put one in?
Lots of car alarm places. Any recommendations?

I don't mean to sound patronising, but seriously the best you can do for a mini imho is a hidden switch or otherwise. An immobiliser won't help very much as it only takes a very small amount of knowlege to steal your mini. I mean very small....like certainly less than a few wires to start it with purely only access to the engine bay.....really...two short wires. Even pulling fuses does not help as minis had their ignition supply taken from the unfused battery side of the fuse box.

An electronic immobiliser offers very little to none of the security that it might offer on a complex wiring loom embedded in a modern car's panels. It is little more than a switch in a pretty box which bottlenecks the wires in one spot. They are a pretty box of sparks with not a lot of substance in a mini.

I can really recommend a hidden switch taking out an electric fuel pump, shorting the -ve side of the coil to ground, a battery lockout switch, or anything sneaky which you can think of to make your car nothing more than a heavy garden gnome once you have initiated the switches..

You can have these features put into your wiring loom just by asking the loom maker, he'll know exactly what you are after just by mentioning it.

Take the white wire from the ignition which runs through to the front of the vehicle, cut it put a switch on it and hide the switch somewhere. If you are running an electric fuel pump you can put a switch on that two. Get a double row two pole switch and run the two wires through the same switch.

all you need to do to hotwire the mini is crack the join at the steering wheel without pulling it apart and run a wire across the right two wires and vrrrm vrmm.

a simple kill switch can cuase a headache, at least until they tow it up onto the flatbed, before they steal it.

Everytime you park the car remove the front left hand wheel - it worked for me

where abouts are you going to be getting the loom made as most places (including the one my son works at) can incorporate an imobiliser and a better fusebox which reduces and depending on some other mods eliminates the chance of the car being stolen in the way Mick was talking about

Best thing to do is run a wire from the coil negative to a switch and then to earth. Car will not be able to be hotwired and will not start once the switch is on as it is like the points are not opening and closing at all.
