Hi there bought a mini clubman without the front brake wheel cylinders and liners and was hoping someone has some pics of them with the drum off and from behind the wheels as I need to know what parts are missing and what is needed.

I have bought the front wheel cylinders but there seems to be a brake line pipe missing or connection or tee not sure even if someone had a diagram of how it goes together that would also be a big help.

Not being smart, but you should consider ringing mini king in Sydney and paying for their parts cataloguel over the phone and have it posted out to you. It has some great exploded diagrams with part numbers on it which I have used at times in preference to a manual when trying to put things back together etc.

hey mate doing my brakes at the moment ok i will explain as best as possible ok u got to pistons in the wheel for your brakes ok and they bolt onto the plate which is behind the studs for the wheel. then you have got a flexible pipe which comes from the car and goes into the side closest to the front screw that in then you have a metal linking pipe joining them both 2 gether then a bleed screw at the end closest to the back of the car now if u havent got this you could be missing them or u could have 850 brakes like i got :( (pulled them off replacing them with beta ones) if u have this u will have no linking pipe u will just have the one piston with a bleed valve on it ok hope that helps

Here is a couple of pics of twin leading shoe brakes (aka not 850 brakes) It's also a great opporunity to check if your adjusters are stuck or hard to move. If they are it's so much easier to fix them while the brakes are out of the way.
Note the way the shoes and pistons are mounted. Both pics are for the drivers side.

Ahh yes forgot about that :oops: , the pic was taken only just after the shoes were fitted. It's where they were sitting after freeing them up from years of crud. No adjustment had been made at that point.
I could have adjusted them later in the wrong direction though :lol: :roll:
But Graham is right boys and girls at home, you should adjust your drums in the direction of forward wheel travel.

Those adjusters are the worst thing about front drums :evil:

Drums can be good brakes, but if these adjusters are loose and worn in the back plate, they will 'self adjust' off!

The opposite is they are cooroded solid and or the square for the spanner is rounded.....Grrrr

There used to be a kit to repair these, never used one, but I think it was a replacement adjuster with a threaded nut on the back to lock the aduster in place once set.

Anybody seen or used one? Would have been a good project for David Rosenthal, but it seems he's leaving us :cry:

Drums ARE good brakes if you keep them in good working order. Yes they require more upkeep than disc's but as long as you're not racing, or being silly coming down a big hill, even then with a skilled driver they are quite up to the task. Just not as capable as disc brakes.

Never heard of a repair kit for the adjusters though. Would be nice if there is a solution out there.

Yes I have installed the "repair kit" in a few drum brake minis and it works really well. a bit fiddly to fit as you need to grind off the old adjuster. but once fitted no more problems. I think i got my kits from mini car clinic in padstow?
