Yep the straps are in pairs. For racing many people fit 3 sets of 3, but you then have to take another .035" off the backplate ears.

You need a new plunger....
When worn like that they don't move straight in.

Now if i buy a good clutch kit, take the whole lot off again.

When i have the flywheel and backing plate out, how do i check gaps.

Are the straps suppsed to be flush, flat.

If there is too large a gap, will putting a third set of straps on close that up.

Is there anything else i should check while i have it all out.

Read this, then ask questions here if you don't understand it-

Thats the old one that came out, the whole lot has been replaced, cover, arm, pins, bearing, and so on.

Shudder is the problem now. Light shudder gearing in low revs, severe shudder gearing down.

Did You line the "A" marks on the pressure plate and diaphram up through the slot close to the timing marks on flywheel.

Oil leakage causes slipping, which is not the same as shudder.

A little oil can cause shudder.
A lot of oil can cause slip.

If you have one of the brown hardwood clutch plates as GR calls them (well they look like it after a bit of abuse) that causes shudder too.

Ok took the whole lot apart, couldnt get the flywheel nut off, so couldnt replace the oil seal. Had a look around everything and it seemed dry.

Put three straps on each and seated the diaphram evenly, tightened it down evenly. Put a new face on the diaphram, the old one had a nice groove in it. Reset the casing and adjusted everything.

New plugs, leads, dizzy, raditor cap, thermostat, oil, filter, coolant.

The shudder i was experiencing before is gone, now its just light shudder, i'll try and replace the oil seal at some stage. Just got to get that flywheel nut.

Back on the road to Adelaide again now.
