I use a product by Dow Corning called DC4 its a silicone insulating grease that we use on most of the gaskets on the aircraft engines. The mating surfaces MUST be clean and smooth but it keeps the gasket moist and flexible and when you need to dissasemble they come off easily. Just put a little on your finger and rub it in until the gasket has gone dark all the way around.

I also use it on the oil filter seal and never have problems removing them.

Loctite 515 is available from any bearing shop, Blackwoods, or other industrial suppliers.
Not Bling stores like Supercrap, Autobarn etc. But they `might' order it in.

Loctite products ~
Matt, Not far from you.
CEDRAY.

81-83 Silverwater Rd,
Silverwater, NSW 2128
Phone:(02) 9648 5666

They are general industrial suppliers. Great for the odd UNF bolt you need or nut.

They have all Loctitie products at a very competitive price.

Personally I use Three bond "rusty red" sealant.....you only need to use a very thin smear on both sides of the gasket. Awesome stuff!! Its available from Bursons.

Loctite 515 Master Gasket is designed for metal to metal joints, it seals well with NO gasket.
I have built 2 boxes with no diff side cover gaskets (which are too damn thich these days) and no leaks. Good stuff- but expensive. $20+ for a small tube.
I've not had a box leak since I started using this stuff on all the gaskets years ago.

Got to agree with Kev on this.

Loctite products may be a little more expensive, buy they work. Small price to pay at the end of the day if you have a leak and have to strip the engine / box down to fix..

Been using Master sealant at work for years. Never a problem.
