I'm thinking on the lines of a lotus head on a ford engine (cortina or escort) onto a mini gearbox with the older style crank adapter the pom's were famous for . Could be the top of the mini clutch housing peeking through at the rear of the engine ...

And the best part ist: it's on a mini(-ish) gearbox  It was for sale some years ago somewhere, can't remember.

They were made by 'Manx', for Ford 'Kent' engines. But of course Kent based Lotus engines fit aswell. But I think both engines needed a special crank or crank tail adapter to take the Mini(?) flywheel:

Ooh that's nice , most of them I've seen photo's of were cruder versions with heavy alloy plate bolted to a standard gearbox rather than a recast gearbox .

Looks like it would be a pain to replace the waterpump. Just as well the Lotus motor has such a good reputation for waterpumps. (the reputation is for chewing out the waterpumps in a short time)

I think there's better engines with much better gearboxes to use nowadays :D

One more note to the pics I posted above: IMHO the Manx 'box was only available as a remote change type. So the others are most possibly of other origin :)
