No offence intended here but--> anyone writing a book about minis 30 years ago may not have experienced such worn or stuffed-with components as we are finding these days.

You should put your heart & soul into everything you do.

I hope to put at least a rear cage in mine. I spoke to an engineer here in NSW a while ago and he said rego can be done with rear cages but becomes more involved with the front hoops. I took that to mean really difficult, and I think the front intrusion bars are out.
Maybe worthwile checking in VIC.

I just recently got one from BOND cages in Sydney.
Nice and easy to install and good VFM IMHO.
Also CAMS approved

cheers guys.. ive seen a few cars with them floating around here i figure il just fit the rear section for rego then put the front in after.. i can make cages myself ive done some race ones before but the time and effort factor is way too high for me lol.. does brown davies do a bolt in setup... also was the bond cage a kit, ie could they send one down to me?i dont really want it so its never coming out if i sell the car (touch wood i dont have to do that) or write it off (touch wood i dont do that either)

Im looking at getting a cage as well. A 6 point with door bars. Can anyone reccommend where to get one like this?

Bruce Dunnet - will look his details for you tomorrow (near Noosa). Welded a half cage for me and does them at a good price & quality (CAMS approved). Also does alloy radators for Mini's

regarding rollcages, to be honest given the mini's level of crash protection i don't see how RTA can poo-poo them, but i guess that's another story..

in QLD at least you can't have side intrusion bars - if they're permanent. mine bolt in so i only put them in for track days...honest...

if you get a bolt in cage, it shouldn't ne too hard to put it in after you get the car registered? anyone with experience on that?

Mine came as a kit from BOND
6 point bolt in with door bars and cost me $1300 delivered
took me about 4hrs of silly buggers to fit it.
Anybody in brisvegas who wants to look at it can PM me.

I can see the point though - sure, it's an overreaction to ban all roll cages (as I believe has been done in some states..?), but they should need to be certified. No point installing something that's not going to fulfill its purpose - make the car safer (for the occupants) and stronger.

A roll bar is only safe when the occupants of the car are wearing helmets.

I have been knocked silly in a crash by hitting my head against a padded roll bar. I was wearing a helmet.

The roll bar reduces the head space inside the car. You are more likely to hit your head in a crash because the roll bar is closer to you.

If you think you need a roll bar for road use I would suggest changing your driving style or buying a bigger car.
