My car is in the shop and it is under water in the northside there has been a flood and the
shop is under water with mi mini in it!

Water is sitting half way up the car and engine all inside is flooded.

The shop has insurance what I need to know is. Is my mini gone! Do I give up.

What happens if water gets in the engine do you think it would?
All my new rims disk breaks etc all under water there is no way to get the car out either
As the street is flooded and we have no access.

I can't believe this is happening and I don't have insurance on the car yet as it is not on the road

If the shop has insurance then you should be ok,,, & yes if you can get it all cleaned out & all fluids flushed out straight away , & then flush the engine & fuel tank & etc again it should all be goo,,, but you may find some condensation Mayo in your tappett cover for a while, keep cleaning & flushing & all should be well

No offence intended here but--> anyone writing a book about minis 30 years ago may not have experienced such worn or stuffed-with components as we are finding these days.

You should put your heart & soul into everything you do.

The electrics in the car? The aircon? I hope it is ok my seats are submerged it's upto the lights now.

Your electrics will be fine but will need a lot of cleaning up. Just like the engine, it all depends on how fast you can get the water out and everything dry...or the interior will smell a little musty...

It will be a big job however. Upholstery, engine, instruments as well as the expected carpets etcetera.

Insurance will fix...

All garage work involves equal measures of enthusiasm, ingenuity and a fair degree of irresponsibility.

as stated, drain and flush your engine and fluids. do it a few times. don't try to start the engine and make sure the shop doesn't either - just push it around.

cause it's fresh water you should be ok damage wise.

just don't attempt to start it - water in an engine when you attempt to start it can bend things and make the engine terminal.

I think the main thing here is to wait and talk to the shop concerned and not panic about retrieving the car too early - most likely the damage is already done. He IS insured, and deserves a chance to address the issues and try to return your car in pre-flood condition, or pay you adequate compensation for damage through his insurance.

Generally cars that have been through major floods are never the same again and that is gutting for you, but by the same token, it may be days before you, and he, know the full extent of the damage.

that sucks, i'm thinking of all the places the water could sit and cause trouble

i'm currently stranded at uni because my mini won't start, damn this rain, knew i should have taken the mazda..

bugger - that really sucks. I think you should tell your insurance company - or at least get some proper advice on what you should do

talk to Graham in aus - his got flooded in the newcastle floods and they all survived.

Pretty sure he flushed them all a few times with new oil, and just dried everything else out

He may also be able to make some suggestions with insurance

pop your distributor cap off and dry it out inside, wrap a plastic bag around the outside of the dizzy and tape it on as much as you can - drive straight home without stopping the engine

Make sure you drain the fuel tank if the water got that high, get all the insulation out, speedo's don't like it, or wheel bearings if the seals are not too good.

It will be recoverable, but a lot of work!
