pop your distributor cap off and dry it out inside, wrap a plastic bag around the outside of the dizzy and tape it on as much as you can - drive straight home without stopping the engine

thanks, already gave that a go - was thinking about spraying with WD-40 - didn't work, and it's parked out in the rain, i'll give it some time and have another go.

yes he was great about it & said we will get it all sorted mate.

i'm just scared now, what do i need to look for?

i have no idea. some one from his insurance company is going to come out & check the damages?

the water has gone down now but it was under water for a good 6 to 8 hrs.

will that engine be stuffed should i be pushing for it to be rebuilt?

I drove down there & saved what i could, rover Dash special Savage light switches etc. but the new wire harness is is drenched so many new parts wet..

the new parts in boxes they took of the car while fixing up things wet!

the seats are stuffed the front & back it's a travaller the interior is wet & swelling.

all your advice i will take on board so i know what i need to ask or what i need new. thanks you so much!

grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

Make sure you drain the fuel tank if the water got that high, get all the insulation out, speedo's don't like it, or wheel bearings if the seals are not too good.

It will be recoverable, but a lot of work!

yes it soaked the fuel tank. the car was sitting under water just below it's front lights for about 8hrs.

the water has just gone down now.

Mate so sorry to hear that,
I've had a boat go under in floods( a couple of times), and was ok, just do all the things that was mentioned previously and as quickly as possible. It might look all doom and gloom but with a fair bit of work it should come out good. I found WD40 or the like to be invaluable.
And at least the workshop has insurance to cover you.
Best of luck
Brian

yeh i guess it is all in the hands of the shop.

hopefully they don't let it sit & rot.

he seamed more concerned with his other cars like the Monaro Gt & the rebuilt corvette with it's new rebuilt engine amongst others WOW factor cars he seemed a bit like oh it's just a mini.

but he did say ill sort it all out though.

hopefully it all comes good i really do.

As soon as you can (make sure it's ok with the insurance comp) pull the entire interior out and wach it on the clothes line,
IMO put the back up on ramps so the side sills can drain forwards (may need a small drill hole, even though the sills have vent/drain holes in them you I would still do this to be sure. Then get the car treated with a water repellent and or rust proofer in all the nooks and crannies.
Like everyone else has said flush the fuel and break lines, strip and re grease the wheel bearings, check the clutch, flywheel etc and and the master and slave cylinders are all cleaned out.

If their insurance company decides its a total loss( financial) get a price off them to retain the wreck, get it home hose it out if its full ov mud n crud an start tearin it to bits an pressure wash every thing thats soggy inside an sit it in the sun to dry( you still have sun up there), spray all electricals with crc or wd40 or water dispursant, as for the running gear, change all filters and get sum cheapo oil and play drain n fill a few times, take the plugs out an turn the donk over a few times to check if water has got into the bores, if it has bung crc etc into the plug holes. if you do this quick and thoroughly you will have a happy car again. had the same thing happen to my ss clubman many years ago an she made a full recovery. plus the insurance money helps a lot. Just make sure they classify it as a financial write off not a total loss coz then they cancel yer v.i.n.
GOOD LUCK DUDE i shall pray to the MINI gods an say a few hail minis for you lol!!

that sucks mate, try and get the interior out and in a nice dry place. Maybe take the foam out of the seats, it might dry quicker then.
Is the car fully sprayed or still in primer?
Hope it all turns out well.

well i'm not sure now how much my mini is worth.

i mean i've spent $16 grand on the car including car with lots of mods & engine crap etc etc etc.

but are travelers rare cars? i'm sure they are last time i checked!

it has a top notch paint job worth loads.

i don't want them to come back to me with a 5grand offer is all i know it is worth more then that.

i think i would want new interior for the car for sure. the other interiro is stuffed.

the water in the shop looked like it had all this oil & fuel in it?
maybe from the other cars or from the dirty ground i would not know what was in it!
