yes well they pulled some of the car apart to weld rust etc.

it's full of mud inside carpet is soaked the back seats with this oil mucky like stains.

the air con humidifier that sits under the dash was sitting on the floor so it's full of water.

the sills are full of water.

it does not look the same from my place to to shop.

i have before photo's of the car, as i said was all new parts new breaks bearings etc all under the car, it is so muddy & dirty like you would not believe.

the shop had pulled apart some parts to fit others like wire my dash etc so dash was out. ( saved my dash ) i think. the water was not that high so it should be ok, well those parts they did pull of for the moment sat on the floor in box's ('new parts') they all soaked in muddy mucky water.

looking at the engine it does not look to bad, i think a good flush will be ok.

they wont let me touch the car until the bloke comes to check it from insurance, so it's really killing me watching it slowly rot! even though it has only been a day lol.

still it's my mini!!

i do have lots of photo's of the build & all receipts of the car.

i will keep everyone updated & after this is sorted ill be getting the insurance the next day lol. i wish i knew this before. lesson learned.

If the water that went into your car was anything like the water that flowed near my place, it was full of mud silt. That stuff won't come out of an engine just by putting a few lots of new oil through it. The car may run but the wear rate inside the donk would have to be high. A strip down, clean and re-assemble would have to be the right thing to do.

i told him that & said a few mini shops recommended that it would need to be stripped & cleaned.

he said fiddle sticks of it will need a rebuild! it's just water mate.

ill need to go over the car with a fine tooth comb.

it was dirty mucky muddy water though & not fresh crystal clear water would it matter?

Have a look inside an enclosed space where the water invaded. If it's full of silt, then your engine is full of silt. Pure and simple.

You should have stuck with a repairer at Higher ground even though you thought they were a bit more expensive. See what happened with getting the job done cheaper. Is it worth the money you saved getting your car drowned ? It sounds like you will need to strip the car from all trim and stuff from the windows down and leave it in the sun with the windows open for a few days to dry it out. Regardin the electrics there should not be much damage to things providing car is not left under water for too long Water dries out and a bit of CRC on connections will work wonders. Any switches and instruments that went under water will need extensive professional attention. Things like srarter motor and Alternator will need an overhaul and a major going over. Make sure you hit the insurer hard after all the work and money your put into that car. And do not sine till it is perfect again. Faults will keep returning long after the flood reseeds. Sorry to hear this Nick and good luck with the cleanup mate.

Use the 'white glove' trick (a white hanky over the end of a finger will do) and wipe around a few spots (enclosed as suggested) - the white will show the dirt.

Silt is full of silica - the second hardest substance to diamond - imagine grinding paste in your bearings

There is no guaranttee the engine is full of silt. In any case the engine wasn't running when it was under water. The major places the water can get in is through the dip stick, rocker cap, breathers and carby. All are fairly restricted openings.

Oil floats on water and as the engine hasn't started or turned over it wont be frothed or through the oil galleries.

Do a systematic first drain of the sump. Drain it into a clear container. The water (if its in the engine) should drain out first. Stop the draining as soon as the oild begins to come out by putting the sump plug back.

Just let the water sit and settle - if there is heaps of silt you will see it settle in the clear container. By all mean then begin the engine oil flushing. The water portion and its silt content will give you an idea of if a strip and clean. A rebuild is not indicated if the engine hasn't been turned over.

A question for those who've been here more than a suggestion, but if the water comes out of the engine silty would it be advisable to flush the engine with a light oil such as diesel, or a solvent such as petrol in order to disperse the silt?
