Had this same thing happen to my mothers 63 cooper a few years ago in Brissy. I went out there immediately and as Matt said drained the engine and filled it up as full as could (actually dropped it on the floor of Coles carpark LOL) pre-environmentally conscious days and was a little pissed off at the time. Anyway, This obviously soaked the top end in oil which helped. Contacted insurance and asked them for speedy assessment as I may be interested in buying back the wreck if and only if they kept it quick. The policy was if it is over the dashboard instant writeoff (Suncorp). Declared a writeoff and was in my place within a week. Hosed everything off and removed the trim from the seats and hosed the foam so it wouldnt stink. Drained all fluids incl brake and clutch and flushed everything through a couple of times. (dont forget to remove and clean the dizzy, and throw away the battery. She went on to drive that car as a daily for another 2 years trouble free. She made a lazy 7k for my efforts. Hope this helps, also hope it works out in your favour.
G.

Steering rack should be OK, unless it has a torn rubber boot.
I'd undo the RH boot, see what comes out- if no water does, put the boot back on, pump about 110ml of EP90 gear oil in with an oil can along the shaft.
Use hoseclamps to hold the boots onto the rack, not those bloody cable ties.... they don't hold tight enough to seal.
Ties are OK on the shafts though.

just an update for everyone.

i called up today to find out what is going on.

they are doing a hydrologist report on the surrounding area to gather if the the (flood) is deemed storm related or flood related. confusing i know!

they guy does not have flood cover wich is shocking.. he lives near a creek..

i mean i should had insurance if i know i could have while building it but why can people be so silly some times!

i was told he turned down taking the extra cover for flood! as it would be more to his policy. even my mother has flood cover she's not even close to a creak, it's more piece of mind.

one thing they did say was even if it is deemed a *flood) act of god* they will sit down & work out the pro's & cons of there decision, if it is bad for business if they will pay out or not & if they do my car is covered for damages via Insurance.

I handed him a letter of demand, he did not seem happy about that  he pointed to his little singe on the wall stipulating all vehicles on the premises are stored at there own risk we take no responsibility. bit of a joke really, i asked a lawyer & that means nothing & yeh he never pointed this out when i dropped the car off! bottom line is he is responsible as soon as the keys are in his care.

I have to wait now a week for this guy to do his report. the for an accessor come out & he will contact me directly regarding my car.

Sometimes its best to say nothing .... especially if you dont have anything constructive to add  Please show a little consideration - what if you were in his shoes and your pride and joy was in this situation. Comments like that are just pointless but most of all make you look a complete moron.

NG, best of luck with the resurrection of the car. I feel for you and hope the cleaning up process is successful.

Matt

that's why i said 'for some reason', as it's not actually funny at all. you also left off the part where i said i hoped all ended up ok.
