Flogged it 238 klicks up the highway to Winton, went around the track twice, and then flogged it all the way back to Melbourne. I reckon the run-in period (whatever that was) is over....

So far today I've fitted new 'M' needles in both carbies and new 'Red' springs in both - interesting the old springs had remnents of red markings I hadn't noticed before but they are 50% longer again than the new ones :? Turned the float chamber tops around so they were pointing the right way

Time to play with the sump plug hole after lunch

I welded the front clip that I cut off a Mini last weekend onto one of my many Minis.

4myego came over and we attempted to replace the bearings in his S front hubs.
Got the drive flanges off, but no way would one CV go back through the outer bearing of the hub. Even when encouraged with a big thick brass drift and a brick hammer. Can you say `rusty'?? :x
The other hub is now fine... 2 new Timkens, NOS ball joints, new CV grease, boot and clips.
I'm now waiting for my neighbour to arrive home to attack the problem hub- he has a 20T press... :P
<EDIT> still couldn't move it with 20T and a 600C hot air gun...

BTW, all the balljoints were only finger tight, just relying on the lock washer to prevent undoing. DANGEROUS STUFF... they should be torqued up to 72ft/lb.
The PO `aeronautical engineer' should never have been let work on a car... :!:
