I made myself some more work by killing the left Hardy Spicer uni joint on the last run at the Wind Farm Hillclimb.

I had a drip from my heater onto the carpet so I pulled the heater out and now have to pull that apart to get the core out. The more things that go wrong with my car the more I love it, it just means I know more about about it and learn how to fix it! It was easy to run the hose across and bypass the heater. Anyway, thats what I am doing on my mini today.

4myego came over and we attempted to replace the bearings in his S front hubs.
Got the drive flanges off, but no way would one CV go back through the outer bearing of the hub. Even when encouraged with a big thick brass drift and a brick hammer. Can you say `rusty'?? :x
The other hub is now fine... 2 new Timkens, NOS ball joints, new CV grease, boot and clips.
I'm now waiting for my neighbour to arrive home to attack the problem hub- he has a 20T press... :P
<EDIT> still couldn't move it with 20T and a 600C hot air gun...

BTW, all the balljoints were only finger tight, just relying on the lock washer to prevent undoing. DANGEROUS STUFF... they should be torqued up to 72ft/lb.
The PO `aeronautical engineer' should never have been let work on a car... :!:

Progress-
Well, 4myego finally got the CV out, he had to use oxy to cut the rollers out of the outer Timken. Then used angle grinder to slit the bearing inner journal off.:P
Then we found the 20T press job last night had bulged the swivel hub housing bore big in the middle..
New swivel hub time. It's only $$$... his.
Why was old bearing so tight?
The CV shank had been gouged by a bearing before and it looks like the PO metal sprayed it to build back up. But, he left it oversize... we had to polish it down so the new bearings would fit on.
He must have used a press to assemble it.
I love fun and games...

Removed all of the parts from the front subframe. Subframe looks a bit damaged from accident and too many wrongly placed car jacks so uncoverd spare subframe from my pile of spare parts and started to clean it up. Old front subframe will now be scrapped. Also removed steering rack, steering column and pedals. Most parts almost stripped from the shell, so shell will soon be ready for sandblasting and replacement of rusty parts. Also need to sand blast subframes, remove dings and paint.

Took my Mk1 type metal heater apart today to get the leaking core out. It looks like its had it. Have to look at the mini sites now to see if I can get a new one.
